Overview
I worked with Visions of Harbor Springs Eyecare in Harbor Springs, MI between June 2021 and August 2021 to help them redesign their very outdated website. For this project we focused on picking a theme that would match the business. This business is located right off of Lake Michigan so we chose to use a nautical theme. We also focused on learning the history of the business and getting to know the staff to mention them in the website.
Problem
Visions of Harbor Springs had a very outdated website and the owner was looking for a user experience designer with skills in web design to help the company in creating a new version of their website. The old website was very outdated and not attractive, it did not include the address to the new business residence, and it did not have updated information for the new staff members or products and services.
This was my first attempt at coding from scratch using html and css.
Process
In the website redesign process, I had many discussions with the business owner to help meet their needs in a new website. First I had to buy a new domain name because the new owner did not have access to the old one. Next, I had many discussions with the owner to find out what they wanted in a new website. During the website redesign process, I created four prototypes before I created the final product. These prototypes show the gradual progress of the new Visions of Harbor Springs website. Finally, I used the website editor through GoDaddy to create a new website for Visions.
The Solution
I created a new, clean, updated website for Visions of Harbor Springs that fit the theme of the company. The updated website consists of a new color scheme, updated information on the company’s products and services, and is easy to navigate and includes a more updated, modern theme of Harbor Springs, MI.
